Ho-Oh's Realm was founded in August 2009 by two members from a Lugia and Articuno fansite, Shiny-Ho-Oh and Nightshadow. Shiny-Ho-Oh, the creator of the site, was (and still is) a rather big fan of Ho-Oh, and was fed up with all the flaming that went on about the Pokémon, and decided to make its own fansite. A forumotions site was the first version of Ho-Oh's Realm. You can visit it at http://ho-ohrealm.forumotion.net/. However, despite its seemingly "old" look, this site holds a large amount of memories for the staff and members who were a part of it, and was the foundation of the HoR communitiy. The site was designed by Shiny-Ho-Oh and Nightshadow, and was created on August 8, 2009. On August 24, Altair created an IRC network for the community, with the main server originally named hoohrealm.dynalias.com, which was later renamed to flame.ho-ohrealm.net after the site's new domain was registered. Later on, Sneas' IRC network was merged with the Ho-Oh's Realm IRC network, and 2 servers, irc.ambernova.net and shadow.ambernova.net were linked to the network. Sometime during the later months of 2009, Altair created the site's Oekaki. This Oekaki can still be found to this day at http://www.ho-ohrealm.net/oekaki/. In January 2010, a good friend of the administrators, Jamie, bought the ho-ohrealm.net domain for us. He also offered his private hosting services to us for free, which we accepted, and to this day, Jamie has still faithfully paid and hosted for us. Without him, Ho-Oh's Realm would not be at where it is now. With the introduction of new resources, Altair began working on setting up the new site, completing the design of the site and forum within a two week time period. After a few edits by the other administrators, the new site was revealed to the Ho-Oh's Realm community (and Internet) on January 30, 2010. A paintchat server hosted by Altair was created as a side service for the site, but later was removed due to inactivity. An IRC regular, Umbreon, put forward the idea of a Pokémon Online server, an online Pokémon battle simulator. He was granted permission to host the server, however, it was taken down due to router issues for a while. Recently, the Pokémon Online server was moved and rehosted on Altair's server computer, and is now back up and online. Meanwhile, a chatbox was embedded into the site, but as the host, cbox.ws, required continuous payment, it was merely a simple test until Sneas decided to put some money towards it. To do this day, we still owe him for that favour. During February 2011, the IRC Network Administrators decided on hosting a free IRC Bouncer Service, which can be found at http://www.ho-ohrealm.net/chat/bouncer/. Still growing in size, the service was made official late March. Another IRC service introduced in March was the IRC Muck Up event. Inspired by April Fools, the IRC Muck Up event was a period of time where users could connect to a special server on the network designed for the event, and gain the powers required to basically fool around and play with each other. To do this day, Ho-Oh's Realm has been continuously growing, and we thank all of our members for their contributions. The site's history is explained further in a story written by one of the administrators: The Rise of Ho-Oh's Realm. Please be patient while this story progresses. To gain access to it, you are required to gain the 'Elite Member' status on the forum, which is the equivalent of a regular member status. |
